PRESS RELEASE

LORD DIGBY JONES ADVISES TAYLOR ON TAKING BINS GLOBAL

Lord Digby Jones visited leading recycling and waste containment solutions provider Taylor, to advise the company on shaping its strategy for building the business in overseas markets.

In his role as Chairman of the International Business Advisory Board at HSBC, with whom Taylor is working globally, Lord Jones is spearheading an awareness programme to help British businesses connect to foreign markets and take advantage of the opportunities afforded by cross-border trade.

Droitwich-based Taylor, UK market leaders in the manufacture and design of waste and recycling containment solutions, will focus its 2010 growth strategy on the development of overseas markets as a key part of its expansion plans.
Several local authorities and private waste management contractors in the UK currently use Taylor’s metal waste and recycling bins. The company also supplies its core waste and recycling containers to municipalities and waste collection contractors across Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia regions. Emerging markets in these countries will play a fundamental role in Taylor’s export strategy.

Lord Jones a former Minister at UK Trade & Investment and ex-Director General of the CBI said:
“The time is ripe for British businesses to look at opportunities to build their business in overseas markets. It is at times like this that UK business must reach out from the UK around the world. The only way that this country will successfully and sustainably emerge from its economic problems is to trade itself out of them. There are a number of key global markets of opportunity for businesses like Taylor. The Middle East for example admires British business and continues to demonstrate that it is keen to buy from the UK.

“Operating in overseas markets can increase a business’ productivity and competitiveness as well as improving performance in home markets and making a business more resilient to the challenges of doing business in this type of economy.”

Dr David Gillett, Business Development Director responsible for overseas development at Taylor commented: “While we continue to enjoy our market leading position in the UK, we don’t have the luxury to stand still in a global economy and need to reach out to foreign markets. The world is undergoing a major infrastructure build and this includes professionalising the waste management sector across all continents. As the world’s largest manufacturer of metal bins,

Taylor is well-placed to exploit this market opportunity and HSBC, with its unrivalled global network would seem well placed to help us.”

Taylor is supported in its expansion plans by HSBC. Roy Harris, HSBC Regional Commercial Director, Midlands said:

“Domestic markets continue to pose challenges and as a result many businesses are rightly looking beyond the UK for new opportunities. Taylor is a prime example of a business taking this approach and thriving as a result and we’ll continue to support our customer in achieving its goals. We believe the only way the UK will recover quickly and sustainably from the recession is by trading her way out and hence we are encouraging all businesses to evaluate what opportunities lie overseas.”
